Our History
We are a non-profit organization proudly serving the greater Denver area from our home base in Westminster, Colorado, for over a decade. Our journey began in 2012 as Black ICE Martial Arts, rooted in the values of families who started with Mile High Karate.
In 2015, we became 5280 Karate Academy Foundation Inc and adopted the public name Westy 5280, expanding our reach and serving even more students through volunteer-led instruction.
While our sign reads "Karate," we are fundamentally an American Taekwondo school. Our curriculum is diverse, incorporating Karate, Taekwondo, and Weapons exploration to provide a well-rounded martial arts education.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?
The journey to a black belt typically takes around 4 years of dedicated training. It is about commitment, perseverance, and personal growth along the way.
Are your instructors volunteers?
Yes! Every one of our instructors is a passionate volunteer. They teach out of love for the art of Taekwondo and the joy of passing on their knowledge to the next generation.
What age can you start training?
We welcome students as young as 5 years old and offer classes for all age groups. Whether you're young or young at heart, we have a place for you.
What are class sizes like?
We keep our classes small, with around 15–20 students per session. This allows for personalized attention and a more supportive learning environment.
Why are you a non-profit?
Our founders and instructors are dedicated to making a positive impact on the community. We prioritize sharing the art of Taekwondo and giving back, rather than focusing on profits.
